Sunda Kelapa Harbor in Jakarta


Sunda Kelapa Harbor in Jakarta located at the mouth of the Ciliwung River in the north of Jakarta city and now more popular as Pasar Ikan. This Harbor was built in the early 17th centurywhen the trader from Portuguese meet with the people of the Kingdom of Pajajaran. This 500-year-old harbor area was a vital link to markets of the outside world for the 15th century kingdom of Pajajaran.

Dutch domination of Indonesia began from this area, whereas the remnants of Castile Batavia and trading post of the Dutch East Indies Company can still be seen now. Sunda Kelapa Harbor in Jakarta is at present a fisherman's wharf and an inter-island port, still active and serves as the port sailing cargo vessels called perahu pinisi.The vessels in this harbor are navigated primarily by Bugis and Makassarese traders. They transport raw materials from Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.

Along the street leading to the Sunda Kelapa Harbor in Jakarta is lined with shops selling all sorts of shells, dehydrated turtles, lobsters and mostly everything the seafarer might need. Nice sunset in Ayer Island


Ayer island is a member of a group of island called Thousand Island, Located 29 km North of Jakarta city and can be reached by speed boat from Marina Ancol around 30 minutes. Thousand Island is only a name which is consist of only around 130 registered islands. The Ayer island has been introduced during Dutch Colonization around 18th century, was used for vacation for the kings like the King of Pajajaran and also the first President of Indonesia sometimes was stay for recreation during week end.

Ayer island has the accommodation facilities like cottages and bungalows with the traditional style and fully furnished with 24 hours room service and laundry. Also available Restaurant & Bar, Coffee Shop, Karaoke room, massage and reflexology.

As the capital city, Jakarta also as the main entrance to Indonesia.
